ToggleAt Your Command Lesson 1: The Power of Decreeing
Can you decree something and make it happen? Absolutely! Throughout history, man has been decreeing and manifesting things in his world, and he continues to do so as long as he is conscious of being human. Everything that appears in your world is a result of your decrees, whether you realize it or not. This unchanging principle cannot be disproven. But remember, your decrees are not made through mere words or empty affirmations. They are made in consciousness.
When you read the Bible from this perspective, you’ll discover that it’s not merely a historical record or a biography of Jesus. It is a profound psychological drama unfolding within the human consciousness. Claim it as your own, and watch as your world transforms from the deserts of Egypt to the promised land of Canaan.
While everyone agrees that all things are made by God, there is disagreement about the identity of God. Different churches and priesthoods have varying opinions. However, Moses and the prophets were in complete agreement about the identity and nature of God. Moses understood God to be man’s awareness of being, as he proclaimed, “I AM has sent me unto you.” David sang in his psalms, “Be still and know that I AM God.” Isaiah declared, “I AM the Lord, and there is none else.” The New Testament also reaffirms the awareness of being as God in numerous statements attributed to Jesus.
Consciousness holds the power of resurrection. It brings forth into manifestation that which you are conscious of being. You are constantly out-picturing what you are aware of being. This truth sets you free, for you are either self-imprisoned or self-freed based on your conscious awareness.
To truly transform your world, let go of the belief in a God separate from yourself. Claim God as your awareness of being, just as Jesus and the prophets did. Recognize the oneness of “I and my father are one but my father is greater.” This statement may seem confusing, but when you understand that consciousness is the father and the thing you are conscious of being is the son, it becomes clearer. Your consciousness and your reality are one but your consciousness is greater because that’s what’s causing your reality.
Jesus understood this truth and proclaimed his oneness with God, not a God created by man’s imagination. He said, “The kingdom of God is within you,” cautioning against looking for God elsewhere. Heaven resides within you. So, when it is said that Jesus went to his father, it means he rose in consciousness to a point where he was purely conscious of being, transcending the limitations of his human self called “Jesus.”
Embrace this understanding, and let the power of your consciousness shape your reality. Recognize your oneness with God and unleash the transformative potential within you.
At Your Command Lesson 2: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness
Within the realm of awareness of being, all things are possible. As it is said, “You shall decree a thing and it shall come to pass.” This means that by rising in consciousness to the naturalness of being the desired thing, you bring about its manifestation. Just as Jesus stated, “If I be lifted up, I shall draw all men unto me.” When you lift your consciousness to the state of the desired thing, you naturally draw its manifestation to you. Your consciousness acts as the father that draws the manifestations of life into your experience.
In this very moment, you are attracting into your world whatever you are currently conscious of being. This is why being “born again” is so significant. If you’re unsatisfied with your current circumstances, the only way to change them is to shift your attention away from what seems real and rise in consciousness to become what you desire. You cannot serve two masters simultaneously, so by redirecting your focus, you let go of one state of consciousness to embrace another.
The question, “Whom do you say that I AM?” is not directed to a person named Peter by someone called Jesus. It is an eternal question addressed to your true being by yourself. In simpler terms, it asks, “Who do you believe you are?” Your self-perception, your conviction about yourself, determines how you express yourself in life. Jesus taught, “You believe in God – believe also in me.” In other words, recognize that the “me” within you is this God. Prayer, then, is not about petitioning an external God but recognizing yourself as the desired state of being.
You can now understand why many prayers go unanswered. People pray to a God they perceive as separate from themselves. For instance, if you are conscious of being poor and pray to a God for riches, you are rewarded with more poverty because that is what you are conscious of being. Prayers for success should be claims rather than pleas. To pray for riches, turn away from the picture of poverty, deny the evidence of your senses, and assume the nature of being wealthy.
Remember the instruction, “When you pray, go within in secret and shut the door. And that which your father sees in secret, with that he will reward you openly.” Here, the “father” refers to your awareness of being, and the “door” represents your consciousness. To “shut the door” means to shift your attention from your current state of consciousness and claim yourself to be the desired state. Once you establish this claim with conviction, manifestations aligned with your claim will appear. Don’t question the how of these manifestations; they will appear through consciousness. Jesus declared, “I AM the way,” indicating that consciousness is the path through which things appear. Signs always follow, never precede. Things exist only in consciousness, so gain the consciousness first, and the manifestation is compelled to appear.
When you are advised to seek the kingdom of Heaven first, it means to prioritize attaining the consciousness of your desires. Leave the actual things aside for now. This is what it means to decree a thing and have it come to pass.
Apply this principle and experience the truth for yourself. The story of Mary symbolizes the story of every individual. Mary represents the awareness of being, which remains pure and untouched no matter how many desires it gives birth to. Consider yourself as this pure awareness, being impregnated by your desires and giving birth to them. For example, Mary knew not a man but conceived. Similarly, you may not have any reason to believe your current desires are possible, but by recognizing your awareness of being as God, you make that awareness your partner and conceive the manifestation of your desires.
Maintain secrecy regarding your ambitions or desires, just as Mary was instructed not to tell anyone. Others may echo your present fears, so keep your desires to yourself. The second instruction from Mary’s story is to “magnify the Lord.” Here, the Lord refers to your awareness of being. Magnifying the Lord means expanding and revaluing your current conception of yourself until it becomes natural. Once this naturalness is achieved, you give birth to your desire by embodying the state you desire in consciousness.
The story of creation is summarized in the first chapter of John. It begins with “In the beginning was the word.” This “beginning” refers to the current moment, where an urge or desire arises. The “word” represents the desire floating in your consciousness, seeking embodiment. However, the urge itself is not real, as only “I AM” or awareness of being is truly real. Things exist only as long as you are aware of them. To bring your desire into reality, the second part of the verse must be applied: “And the word was with God.” The desire must unite and become fixed in consciousness to gain reality. Your awareness becomes conscious of being the desired state, thereby attaching itself to the conception and giving life to the previously unfulfilled desire. As it is said, “Two shall agree as touching anything and it shall be established on earth.” This agreement is not between two individuals but between your awareness and the desired state.
Right now, you are conscious of being, so you are actually saying to yourself, without words, “I AM.” If you desire to be healthy, for instance, before any evidence of health appears in your world, begin to FEEL yourself as healthy. The moment you genuinely feel “I AM healthy,” the agreement is made between your awareness and health. The result is the birth of the desired state—health. By making this agreement, you express the agreed-upon state. This is why Moses proclaimed, “I AM has sent me.” Who else but awareness could send you into expression? None. “I AM the way. Besides me, there is no other.” No matter where you go or what you experience, you remain aware of being. Your awareness is ever the sender, and your expression is always aligned with what you are aware of being.
Take wings in your thoughts and explore the depths of your being. Conceive the desires that align with your true self. Realize that by embodying the state of your desires in consciousness, you will bring them into manifestation.
At Your Command Lesson 3: The Power of Recognizing Your True Self
In this part of the book, Neville Goddard explores the profound teachings behind Moses’ statement, “I AM that I AM.” He emphasizes the need to let go of old beliefs and limitations in order to transcend to a new level of consciousness.
Think of it this way: You can’t pour new wine into old bottles or patch new fabric onto old garments. Similarly, you can’t bring the old version of yourself into this new consciousness. Your present beliefs, fears, and limitations are like weights that keep you tied to your current level of consciousness.
To move beyond this, you must shift your focus away from your problems and limitations. Instead, simply declare to yourself, “I AM,” without any conditions or restrictions. Repeat this affirmation until you become immersed in the feeling of just being, faceless and formless.
Once you’ve expanded your consciousness in this formless state, you can give shape to your new desires. Feel within yourself the embodiment of what you desire to be. Within this deep, formless awareness, all things become divinely possible.
The Scriptures invite us to “be absent from the body and be present with the Lord.” Here, the body represents your former conception of yourself, and “the Lord” refers to your awareness of being. Jesus spoke of being “born again” to enter the kingdom of Heaven. This means leaving behind your present self-conception and assuming the nature of a new birth. Otherwise, you will continue to manifest your present limitations.
Understand that the only way to change your life experiences is to change your consciousness. Your consciousness is the reality that solidifies itself in your surroundings. Every detail of your world is a reflection of your inner state. Destroying external things will not change your environment, just as destroying a mirror won’t alter your reflection. Your environment mirrors your consciousness, so as long as you remain in a particular state, it will continue to be reflected in your world.
Understanding this, it’s time to revalue yourself. Too often, we underestimate our own worth. In the Book of Numbers, it is written that the people saw themselves as grasshoppers in the presence of giants. These giants represent the conditions in your life that seem threatening, such as unemployment, your enemies, or problems. However, you must realize that you first saw yourself as a grasshopper, and this self-perception made you appear as such to the giants. Remember, you can only be to others what you are first to yourself. By revaluing yourself and embracing your inner power, you diminish these former giants and transform them into insignificant creatures.
“All the inhabitants of the earth are as nothing” – these words do not refer to an orthodox God sitting in space, but rather to the everlasting father, your awareness of being. Awaken to the immense power within you, not as a mere human, but as your true self—an infinite, formless awareness. Free yourself from the self-imposed prison and understand that your awareness of being is the lord and shepherd of your life.
You are a voice calling in the wilderness of human confusion, and there will never come a time when what you believe in fails to find you. “I AM” is an open door for all that you are to enter. Your awareness of being is the gateway to abundance and fulfillment. Trust in the inherent power within you, and you shall not lack evidence or proof of what you desire.
Knowing this, why not become aware of being great, loving, wealthy, healthy, and all the attributes you admire? It is just as easy to possess the consciousness of these qualities as it is to possess their opposites. Your present consciousness is not shaped by your world but rather shapes your world. Embrace the simplicity of this truth, for it is often overlooked in the complexities created by the wisdom of man.
The principle of recognizing your own divinity may seem foolish to some and a stumbling block to others. But it’s time to awaken to the being that you truly are. Humans have long worshiped a God separate from themselves, but it’s time to realize that the true revelation is that you and your God are one and the same. Your present conception of yourself may be limited, but you are greater than what you currently believe.
Before you can transform your world, establish the foundation that “I AM the Lord.” Understand that your awareness, your consciousness of being, is divine. Once this conviction is unshakable, no suggestion or argument from others can sway you back into the slavery of former beliefs. If you do not believe in your divine nature, you will continue to be confused and thwarted.
As you realize this truth, every urge and desire within you will find expression in your world. Picture yourself as the door, and the urge as the one knocking. Open the door by feeling yourself as the desired state. When you feel your desires are impossible, you shut the door and deny their expression. But when you rise in consciousness to the naturalness of the desired state, you swing wide the door and invite it into embodiment.
This understanding is why it is often said that Jesus ascended to his father. Jesus, like you and me, found things impossible in his human form until he discovered his father—his state of consciousness aligned with his desires. He left behind his former consciousness and rose to the state he desired, becoming one with it. In doing so, he expressed that desired state fully.
Remember that you are like a garment housing the impersonal being, the presence of God known as “I AM.” Each garment has its limitations, but you can transcend those limitations and express what seems impossible for you as an individual. Shift your attention away from your present limitations or self-conception and merge yourself in the feeling of being that which you desire. The how of this transformation is beyond our understanding, so focus on embodying.
